I am super excited for our theme this month, Marketing Systems, because this is one of the essential topics that a maturing business and brand will crave to know more about. Perhaps the single-most important factor in your ability to scale, separate-from or even sell your business, having effective systems, processes and automations in your business is an essential stage in your growth.
This month we’re going to share a few of the most basic marketing-related systems and automations that will help you do three critical things:
- Save your valuable time and give you relief from repetitive
- Add functionality, organization and/or visibility that you didn’t have before, without adding tasks to your plate
- Increase consistency in process and results, making your essential business tasks easier AND more effective
To start with, I want to share one of the most important hubs in the Working with Dog Marketing stack. Throughout this theme I’ll share a few more of our own tools and processes, but I’d like to start with my favorite…
One of the most essential hubs for our systems, automations and connecting of team members, tasks, content and data – is Google. I HIGHLY recommend considering a shift to the ‘Google Apps’ suite for your business – moving my business email to the gsuite platform is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made (oh the hours and the pain saved!) Here’s how I use Google:
- Calendar
- Shared Drive / Docs / Sheets with Team and Vendors
- Keep for lists
- Analytics for web data
… and more
I like gsuite because it’s cheap, it’s secure, everyone knows how to use it, it integrates with any new software I add to our stack, it’s got epic storage in-built, and of course, it’s easy to use. Plus, I can access everything on my phone and there’s never any surprises, outages or price hikes.

Your Challenge
As we enter into this month of systems, I challenge you to draw out your flow of business on piece of paper, white board etc. How does it fundamentally work? Where are the big time-sucks currently in your process? Consider the following marketing moments… What are you currently doing? What is the most time consuming? What do you hate? What would you outsource first? What is the most important to your customer? To you? What moments matter the most to revenue creation?
There is no right or wrong way to do this – actually drawing it out can reveal a LOT!!
